The day before Spring Break was tainted when LCC student Christopher Henry Armetta allegedly told his roommate Jason Dillow that he planned to shoot several LCC students and faculty during a large event such as the ASB elections that took place on April 6 and 7. Armetta allegedly named specific LC students, faculty and an administrator.
It was rumored that there were guns and bombs in his possession, a search of his dorm room revealed no weapons, according to Susanville Police.
Until the courts decide what will be done with Armetta, he is suspended from LCC and not allowed on campus. Armetta was taken into police custody on the charge of making a threat, but was released on $10,000 bail May 7.
A confidential memo was sent to the two faculty members and the administrator who were allegedly targeted by Armetta. Another memo that was released to the public stating the names of those targeted and that if he is seen on campus to call 911. The memo went on to say that Armetta's bail was posted at $10,000 which was established at the preliminary hearing on April 23.
Armetta is currently banned from the dorms and his possessions were removed shortly after his arrest. Dorm students have been informed of this incident and the dorms are now on "lock down."
While his threats are very serious, he had done nothing to carry out his plan. The authorities, students and administrators who took swift action in this case have expressed their belief that they acted appropriately.
